BeoWulf design philosophy:
In this industry things change. Taste change, browsers change, programs change, and technology changes. Right now the entire industry is going through a painful series of changes. I survive because I try to keep things simple, I focus on the basic elements of what I feel makes a site work. I hand code with HomeSite or BBEdit, and use Dreamweaver for comping and structuring a site. I take the time to make sure that I do a quality job.
Navigation is king, and usability is Queen of the Internet. Graphics are what gives you a look, but it is the feel that translates most into the users experience. What matters is the flow of information and what the user wants out of the visit. How to integrate this into the needs of marketing is what makes a site work or fail. Web site design begins and ends with one simple thing...NAVIGATION! After all what is the web but a set of linked documents. Hypertext is all about being able to find information. In site design you are trying to lead someone to your information. Good site design means that users can get to what they want and get there quickly, otherwise what is the point.
Work philosophy:
Since 1995 I have worked on a lot of sites and a lot of code. All my work progresses from initial template work and design concepts in Photoshop and Dreamweaver. Once the design work is done I move the templates to BBEdit or Homesite. From that point all the work is hand coded. Hand coding is important because without it, it is difficult to ever resolve bugs. Understanding the code means that you can save a lot of time on the backside of a project. If you take a little extra time up front to put the quality in, then you can save many hours on maintinance.
